Our Story

Bob and Andrea Mohr had their first taste of truffles in 2006. The aroma of those small, gnarled nuggets was unlike anything they’d ever experienced.

That meal ignited a 17-year journey to cultivate truffles, and to be the first to do so in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. Cultivating truffles is a patient endeavour. It can take years for them to emerge, requiring specific conditions of soil pH, moisture, nutrients and protected land. The Mohrs’ truffle venture began in 2005 on 2.5 acres in the heart of the Okanagan. After two initial failures, they persevered and in 2012 moved the farm location, ordered 45 English oak trees inoculated with Périgord black truffle from Oregon and tended them meticulously.

Over the years, as the Mohrs’ farm matured, they planted an additional 40 trees and began surveying the farm with truffle-sniffing dogs. Finally, during the winter of 2023, the dogs unearthed the first Périgord black truffles ever cultivated in the Okanagan. Now, as Hidden Harvest, the Mohrs are planning for the future. With local chef orders and provincial support, they have paved the way for truffle farming in British Columbia.
